A Bit of History

In May of 1977, a small group of believers led by Pastor Ada Stillion, Pastor Ken Holtz and Elder John Meyer Sr. began building the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd, Iowa. The church was dedicated in May of 1978. A week of special meetings were held to celebrate the new work. Paul Phillips became the pastor in 1981. In 1983 the growing congregation added a 25' X 50' educational wing and basement. The families of the church desired a Christian education for their children, and in August of 1988, Lighthouse Academy opened its doors. A parsonage was purchased in August of 1989. The two-day, all-day Floyd Gospel Sing was started in September of 1995, and is always held the Friday and Saturday after Labor Day. Over 35 gospel groups from various states come and minister through song and testimony at testimony at this much anticipated event. Due to growth in all areas of ministry, a new 40' X 80' sanctuary was built. The new sanctuary was dedicated in May of 1999.

In November of 2004, the congregation added a much-needed 25' by 40' narthex.

In May of of 2007, the church voted to build a new West Wing. This new addition would double our facilities. Over 200 people helped in the construction. We added two new Learning Centers and a computer lab for Lighthouse Academy, four new offices, modern kitchen, storage and large fellowship hall. We thank the Lord for this new addition. We were able to pay half of the costs up front - TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
