"Angel Eyes" Reviews

Read below what some people are saying about "Angel Eyes."

The first time I read Dixie’s story, Angel Eyes, I had to hold back the tears in order to finish it. I will never forget that the only thing Jesus was allowed to take with Him from Earth back to Heaven, were the holes in His hands, feet and side. Thank you, Dixie, for making the meaning of the cross a memory not easily forgotten.

What can I say?  These books are PRECIOUS!  With their charming illustrations and their heartwarming storylines, these two books are sure to become favorites to many children.  Dixie Phillips has used some endearing characters (a donkey who's feeling down on his luck, and some child-like cherubs) to help tell the story of the  gospel in such a way that children can easily relate to it and understand it.  Kim Sponaugle is an extremely talented artist whose illustrations are colorful and fun to look at.

I see a lot of children's  books and I really do enjoy reading them.  I'm an adult, though, so you don't want to take my word for it!  My 8 year old daughter read both of these books and she says that they were very good and she thinks that kids would really enjoy reading them.  So, there you have it!  If you're looking for a good Christmas gift for some of the little ones in your life, be sure to check out these two titles by Guardian Angel Publishing.

WOW...  that word just doesn't even cover what we felt reading "Angel Eyes" for the first time!  I had tears in my eyes by the time I was finished, and Holy Ghost bumps throughout reading the story.  What a beautiful way to tell the story of what our Lord & Savior did for us!  This story was truly a touch from our God...through Dixie Phillips!  God Bless Dixie for her listening and willing spirit!  Our 2 youngest, aged 10 & 7, thouroughly enjoyed the angel characters of Kennedy & Tristan, and they were engrossed in the whole story until we finished, which is quite a feat for a "mover" like one of them is.  They immediately wanted me to read it again...  :)  We truly enjoyed the artwork... funny how I always picture "angels" looking just as these ones did...cherubby children of all colors :)  We are eagerly awaiting Stubby's Destiny!

"It has always been such fun to have children portraying the characters in the stories of Jesus' birth, death, and resurrection.  However, it has never crossed my mind to have these Biblical truths presented from the perspective of angel children.  Tristan and Kennedy help us realize anew the tremendous sacrifices that have been made for our salvation.  Their feelings of confusion at Jesus becoming one of them are expressed in such a realistic manner that earthly children will easily relate.  They are sure to love the happy ending.  The illustrations have captured the characters' emotions beautifully!   I'm having difficulty holding on to my copy of "Angel Eyes" because I keep thinking of children whose lives will be blest by this precious book."

"My daughter enjoyed Dixie Phillips' newest book, Angel Eyes, very much. I placed it in her hands and she plopped right down and read it from front to back. She said it was a beautiful story, and she especially liked the pictures of angels and the part about Jesus' birth."

This is an extremely imaginative book picturing for children how the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Christ might have appeared to angels. "...Which things angels desire to look into" (1 Peter 1:12). Kennedy and Tristan are two cherubs. When Gabriel announces that Prince Emmanuel is going to leave heaven and be born in a little village called Bethlehem, the two cherubs join the angel choir and sing to the shepherds. "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God..." (Luke 2:13).

As the years pass by quickly, the angels rejoice over every milestone in the Prince's life, such as His growth and His baptism. However, three years later, the two come with the other angels who seek to comfort Him as He prays in the Garden of Gethesemane. "Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him" (Luke 22:43). After that they cry as He is killed, but three days later they rejoice in the news of His resurrection. The story is told in an inventive and appealing way that relates these events to youngsters.

Of course, beyond what the Bible specifically says, we do not know exactly what angels have done or are doing. However, we do know that they are "all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation" (Hebrews 1:14). Therefore, there is no harm in imagining how they might have reacted to and participated in various aspects of the life of Christ on earth. I give a two thumbs up to this well written book with its vivid illustrations as something in which young listeners and readers should take great delight.
